Oil paint and oil enamel on Birch Panel
Inspired by naturally occurring patterns in nature. I first construct a wooden panel from 100% birch. I painted the panel solid white. I then painted the first of 8 layers of white rectangles outlined by a fine black stoke. I then applied 12 coats of oil enamel. I tinted the oil enamel a red color. As I applied more layers of lines and more layers or oil enamel, the color of the underlying rectangles begin to change color. Finally, after more than 2,500 rectangles and 100 layers of oil enamel, the finished piece not only has a very different appearance than when it stated it also has visible dimension and depth between the different layers. I then removed all excess oil enamel drips from the side of the panel, sanded smooth, and painted white.
